Healthy diets should include fruit and veggies; however, paying attention to the amount of sugar in fruit is always a good idea.  Some fruits have a higher glycemic index than others.  Foods with a high glycemic index will cause an increase in blood sugar while those with a lower glycemic index will not

 

Fruit with a lower glycemic index

  • Strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Oranges
  • Apples
  • Grapefruit
  • Most grapes
  • Pears
  • Blueberries
  • Cherries

(As an added benefit blueberries and cherries are high in antioxidants which may help prevent disease and reduce inflammation.)

Fruit with a higher glycemic index

  • Pineapple
  • Watermelon
  • Dates
  • Most dried fruits

Keeping this in mind will hopefully help you make some great nutritional choices and stay on track. Just remember that not all fruit is created equal!
