‘Evil Carbs?’ – Frisco’s best personal trainer

Contrary to popular belief carbs are not an enemy of weight loss. Carbs provide the body with glucose which is the preferred source of energy. If you deprive your body of fuel you will decrease the speed of your metabolism. Keep in mind that low-carb does not equal low calorie. Just as low-fat items are often loaded with sugars, low-carb items are often higher in fat and calories than other options. Eating healthy carbs such as fruits, vegetables and incorporating consistent exercise will put you on the path to turning your body into a calorie burning furnace.

Moderation is the key. Everyone should eat a diet that includes carbs, protein and fat in balance. Your daily caloric intake should be approximately 50% carbs, 30% protein and 20% fat. If you watch your calories, avoid empty carbs and fats you will see a more sustainable long-term weight loss than if you try to eliminate carbs from your diet.

If you’re unsure where to begin, the metabolic testing performed at NexGen Fitness can put you on the right path. One of our expert trainers in Frisco will measure your resting metabolic rate (RMR) to determine the daily caloric intake your body needs to help you reach your fitness goals. Our trainers will also help you develop an eating plan to incorporate the foods you like in a healthy diet. With our support you can develop life-long eating habits to improve your health and fitness.
