St John’s Wort

If you’re like many others here in Texas, this crazy up and down weather the past few weeks has probably wreaked havoc on your energy and mood. We all know that during the winter months many individuals suffer from SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder, which is typically brought on by the cold and decreased sunlight. While we hope this part of the year is over for us, if the weather or something else is making you feel blue, maybe there is a natural remedy for it in the form of St John’s Wort. This little yellow flower, that many consider a weed, has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years, but is most known for its supposed benefits in fighting mild to moderate depression.  It can also help with anxiety, tiredness, and even trouble sleeping.  So if you’ve been feeling a little down lately, try taking 250-300 mg 2 or 3 times daily and see if this little plant can help brighten your mood!
